John Begg, Board Member
John began working in the finance industry in advertising and public relations and completed 11 years in retail as franchise owner, Bob Jane T-Marts Geelong.
In 1995 his career began in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) in national business development & national account management roles predominately with family businesses with turnovers from $2M to $15M presenting products for planogram ranging to the Top 10 Australian retailers, wholesalers and niche independent retailers.
John then spent 8.5 years at Geelong Brush Company as National Sales Manager and currently enjoys the position of National Account Manager for White Magic.
John’s vast knowledge of display, product and positive trends in international retail stem from regular visits to the USA, the UK and in France where he studied small to major retailers.
Since living in Queenscliff full time for 4.5 years his community service has been via Instagram accounts @VisitQueenscliff, @VisitPointLonsdale, @VisitBellarine and @TheRip3225 where he posts photos and stories on local tourism items, businesses, events and scenery at no cost to the local community.
Sally Denahy, Vice President
Sally Denahy is an Old Geelong College Collegian who went on to Study a Bachelor of Education at The University of Melbourne, residing at the Melbourne University campus at Newman College. After graduating, Sally taught in London for a number of years followed by teaching positions in Sydney and Perth.
Sally returned to Geelong in 2000 to take up a position at The University of Melbourne researching early years literacy. In 2001, Sally was offered a teaching position at The Geelong College teaching at the school for 15 years.
In her last 7 years at the school, she was an integral part of the curriculum leadership team.
In 2016 Sally and her partner Chris purchased a restaurant and accommodation business in Queenscliff, they continue to work in all facets of the business today.
In 2019 they expanded their portfolio and opened La Monique Perfumery. Sally and Chris hand pour their natural La Monique products, candles, soaps, body lotions and diffusers whilst importing fragrances bespoke to boutique perfumeries from France, Italy, Iceland, Bermuda and the USA.
In 2020, the partners purchased a premise in Point Lonsdale and launched their business La Monique to the seaside Village. Sally and Chris are active fundraisers for SAFV Geelong and have raised over $36 000 to date for families living with domestic violence.
Sally has held positions on a variety of committees as treasurer, president, and secretary. She is currently the Vice President of PLonQ and is passionate about initiating new concepts and dedicating time to create and evolve alongside such an inspiring team in an all-inclusive environment.
As a small business owner representing both Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale and being a local resident, she believes a dynamic community evolves from strong collaboration, forward-thinking and taking risks by embracing change.
Warren Hobbs, Board Member
Warren Hobbs Architect is a director of J3DesignPty Ltd, and has been managing architectural and interior design projects for more than 20 years.
He has a Masters degree in architecture, is a registered Passive House designer and has extensive experience with all types of residential and heritage projects as well as tourism, and retail fields. He and his wife are now full-time Queenscliff residents and run their practice from their newly renovated home.
Soula Mantalvanos, President
Soula is the director of ooi creative communication and Queenscliff Gallery. Soula brings over 25 years of design and communication experience to PLonQ and has a great interest in culture and community connection. Soula is also a great advocate for chronic pain.
Since moving to the Borough of Queenscliffe in 2015 with her partner Theo Mantalvanos, Soula has seen much cause to collaborate with the energised local small business community from which the idea of a cultural organisation presented itself.
Theo Mantalvanos, Treasurer
Marketing, client liaison, business development and aesthetic directing are fundamental attributes that Theo brings to PLonQ to ‘advance the communities of Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff’.
Zelda Walters, Secretary
Now retired, Zelda’s working life has been spent in public relations, marketing and communications and public affairs. Zelda experience includes – running fundraising and auxiliaries for Prince Henry’s Hospital; working at a large public relations firm; in the insurance industry for both a major company and an insurance body; and as a consultant to several other businesses.
She has also volunteered groups running fundraising and at Foodbank Victoria organising food donations (fresh produce).
